Overwatch Underwater Hero and Map Teased?
Blizzard Entertainment added a new item to the Ecopoint: Antarctica that evokes a couple of questions. The item in question is a snow globe on a desk with a blue Overwatch logo. The center of the globe says “Grey.”
This immediately makes you wonder:
1. Is “Grey” meant to be the name, last name, or nickname of a new Hero?
2. We have seen one of Mei’s skins with the green Overwatch logo, which indicates that Overwatch has many divisions within its umbrella: one of them the ecology branch. On the other hand, we have seen a Winston skin with the blue Overwatch logo. The skin is a underwater suit. So the question is: Is there an oceanic division that explores the depths of the ocean? If so, is a new underwater map coming soon, and this item is teasing that? Or could “Grey” refer to the Oceanic division’s station name?
If we take a look at the cryo-chamber in Ecopoint: Antarctica, none of the last names on the cryo-tubes says “Grey.” We only see Adams (Researcher), MacReady (engineering), Opara (cryonics), Torres (Cryonics), and Arrehenius (Climatology).
So it might be safe to say that “Grey” was not a member of the Ecopoint: Antarctica division.
The globe resembles mostly a futuristic snow globe; and I think it is pretty much safe to say that snow globes are commonly gifted to family or friends. Some snow globes on sale usually have the city name and some kind of landmark inside the snow globe. For example:
So it might be possible that “Grey” refers to a location.
Since the Overwatch logo on the snow globe is blue, rather than Ecopoint’s green Overwatch logo — someone from the — let’s call it so — Oceanic division gifted it to a member of the Ecopoint: Antarctica.
In this case, the only relevance we can tinker is that Blizzard purposely placed this item there as a teaser of something coming to the game soon. BlizzCon is merely 42 days from today. On November 1, Blizzard will very likely announce new Overwatch content.
The fact that Mei’s Ecopoint skin has the green logo; and that Winston’s underwater skin uses a blue logo means that the snow globe was gifted by a member of the Oceanic division. Who gifted it? It is unknown at the moment, but Blizzard is certainly teasing either a new hero, a new map, or both.
UPDATE
Some time ago, an image of Overwatch battleground map concepts was shared. There is one underwater map we have not seen yet in-game: Galapagos.
Could this be the underwater map teased via the Undersea Winston skin’s blue Overwatch logo seen on the snow globe?
