Blizzard Teases Doomfist, plus Recent Doomfist PTR Leak
Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch game designer Jeff Kaplan and Geoff Goodman answered unsolved mysteries of Overwatch during an Ars Technica video, and around 10:15 address a question about Doomfist. The developers played coy and mostly joked about him, as if what they were saying was the opposite of what Doomfist is. You could speculate on your own based on their response.
Geoff: Doomfist would be sweet.
Jeff: I think Doomfist would be supercool.
Geoff: He has clearly shown his prowess in Numbani, recently. So… I think he might be a little OP (overpowered). We will see what happens.
Jeff: Doomfist would purely be ranged attacks. I think.
Geoff: A sniper of some kind?
Jeff: Yes. Sniping, and then I think magic. I think, magic and ranged attacks.
When asked who will be the next character released in Overwatch, they evaded the answer, but joked they plan a 4-year solving ARG. Promised there won’t be ARGs. However, there will be cool information soon on who the next hero will be.
It might be a coincidence, but Reddit went bananas recently over some possibly unintentional leak found in the Overwatch PTR logs after a client crash, which revealed the following text:
ERROR
——————————————————————-
Overwatch - 1.13.0.0 Doomfist / Summer Games: Assertion failed: 0x454C339D "0x811C9DC5"
<: Inspector.Summary>
The Overwatch PTR quickly got a small patch update that removed the Doomfist / Summer Games text. Some people speculate that Doomfist is in internal testing and that somehow that string of text was forgotten and not removed for the Public PTR. So, it is in the air whether we will have a Doomfist reveal in the next couple of weeks for the Summer Games event.
Last year, Blizzard Entertainment launched the 2016 Summer Games event: LúcioBall on August 2, 2016. We will have to wait only 36 days if Blizzard plans to launch the Summer Games event around the same date this year.
