Blizzard Entertainment is good at hinting, teasing, and subtly sneaking clues in the Overwatch universe. For instance, the first time we ever knew that Sombra existed wasn’t openly mentioned by Blizzard. It was actually hidden in the Ana Origin Story video (the white screen at 1:16) on Jul 12, 2016. All you saw was a white screen.
At BlizzCon 2016, Blizzard Entertainment announced the Professional Overwatch League
Overwatch, Blizzard Entertainment’s blockbuster team-based shooter, is now over 20 million players strong, and among that number are a new generation of sports heroes. With more and more players continuing to distinguish themselves in the game, Blizzard Entertainment today announced the creation of the Overwatch League—a world-class, sports ecosystem for professional Overwatch competition. Combining Blizzard’s esports pedigree with the best practices of major professional sports, the Overwatch League will focus on long-term stability for teams as well as opportunities for players to establish the types of professional careers associated with traditional sports.
Additional information about Overwatch League can be found in the press release within the press kit below.
We’ve also included the Overwatch League logo, link to the website, the Introduction to Overwatch League video, the Overwatch League Explained video and a few action shots from the Overwatch World Cup.
Blizzard Entertainment posted a new tweet where La Voz de Dorado reports LumériCo CEO Guillermo Portero has stepdown. Atlas News reports that Sombra has breached networks in Russia and across the globe.
If you happen to go to Volskaya Industries, go to the second floor in Point A (above the big health pack). You will see a monitor saying Acceso No Authorizado. Sombra Protocol v2.3.
DORADO, MEXICO—Today, a defiant Guillermo Portero announced that he is temporarily stepping down as CEO of LumériCo following recent revelations by the Sombra hacker collective, unprecedented protests, and widespread civil unrest that took place yesterday. Perhaps the most visible evidence of the incidents can be seen in the widespread pro-Sombra graffiti that has been reported around the world.
While his long-term future at LumériCo is still in doubt, sources within the company believe that this could be the end for the popular executive. However, they stressed that he has not officially resigned or been relieved of his duties, as some within the company still have faith in the charismatic leader.
Whether the move will appease public opinion that has turned against LumériCo in recent weeks remains to be seen. Portero has reiterated that he expects to be fully exonerated pending the authorities’ review of the company’s conduct and a continued investigation into the hacking of LumériCo systems that led to the release of e-mails.
Lost in the recent news is a reported second breach into the LumériCo systems, which has security insiders concerned that the company’s wide-ranging network infrastructure could still be compromised. Similar breaches have been reported around the world including, most recently, Volskaya Industries, Russia’s premier anti-omnic security force.
November 1 is here already, and the LumériCo website is getting hammered with tons of traffic from fans pressing F5 to reload the page, causing a real life outage of service. Sometimes the page give a Bad Gateway 502 error message.
The latest update is found in María Jiménez’s webmail. Two new emails titled: Email Corruption and Admin Terminal Blocked. Accessing the Admin section in her webmail now has a warning message:
“All unathorized access will be prosecuted with all the extent of the law. All commands will be recorded and controlled by a whole team of IT engineers.”
Hailing from the Czech Republic, Germia recently posted a sneak peek video of her Anubis Pharah cosplay. It’s not just a regular cosplay costume, though. It actually features a moving electronic servos system. Her wings spread and holster back. Her gun also shoots missiles. Hopefully, she doesn’t poke someone’s eye with it when justice rains from above.
Guillermo Portero is in trouble after leaked evidence of corruption — A little nice thing Blizzard Entertainment posted on the official Overwatch Facebook page.
Personally, and that’s just me, November 1 happens on a Tuesday. Would it be far-fetched to think that a Festival de la Luz PvE Brawl takes us into a Halloween Terror-setup-look-alike in Dorado fighting either the Los Muertos gang or LumériCo’s security team?

DORADO, MEXICO—LumériCo has been engulfed in scandal by documents brought to light by the hacker collective known as “Sombra.” The documents are alleged to have been obtained during recent security breaches of the energy company’s internal networks. While LumériCo and Mexican law enforcement have categorized these break-ins as criminal actions, the Sombra collective claims that it is “only acting in the public interest.”
At this time, the massive file dump is still being analyzed and dissected, but a number of allegations have already been made, many of them focusing on the office of LumériCo CEO Guillermo Portero. Documents indicate that Mr. Portero used the company’s funds as his own piggy bank, that he was personally involved in bribing public officials and creating a system of kickbacks and payoffs beneficial to LumériCo, and finally, that he proposed a plan to seize privately held land via government expropriation to expand LumériCo’s facilities throughout Mexico.
Hanmura is an Assault map located in Japan. Attackers fight to capture two objectives. Defenders hold them off until time runs out. This colorful land and its cherry blossoms is dwarfed by the tall Fuji mountain in the background.
In real life, there is a restaurant named Hanamura, and a location in the far western side of Japan named Hamura — but 12 hours away from Mount Fuji. Thus, the Overwatch map is mostly a fictional location near Tokyo. In japanese, Hanamura means “Village of Blossom Flowers.”
“Hanamura is a well-preserved village of unassuming shops and quiet streets, known mostly for its idyllic cherry blossom festival every spring. But to those who know its history, Hanamura is the ancestral home of the Shimada ninja clan, which had grown over the centuries to become a powerful criminal organization. As its neighboring cities expanded, Hanamura was encircled, and eventually it was incorporated as a district within a larger city. For now, the imposing compound of the Shimada family lies empty, but that peace may soon be broken.” — Overwatch Visual Source Book (Overwatch: Collector’s Edition)
The Temple of Anubis is an Assault map located in Egypt. Attackers fight to capture two objectives; defenders hold them off until time runs out.
“Nestled among the ancient ruins of the Giza Plateau on the outskirts of Cairo, the Temple of Anubis is one of many new excavations in the area. While most believe that the site is of interest for archaeological reasons, it also hides the entrance to a research facility that extends deep beneath the earth. The facility is alleged to house an artificial intelligence, but the whole truth is known only to a select few. Not even the agents of Helix Security International who guard the facility know what they’re protecting.” — Overwatch Visual Source Book (Overwatch: Collector’s Edition)
Overwatch voice actor Matt Mercer hilariously said “High Noon” during an interview when he responded where fans could follow his current work. He responded:
“You can find it on Twitch every Thursday night at 7PM pacific time at Twitch.TV/geekandsundry — so you go and check that out and see if it is a different time zone, you can go check ahead and watch it at… HIGH NOON!”
Everyone in the studio laughed in amazement as he pulled that one. Thanks to jigantie1 for that find.
King’s Row is located in London (England). It is an Assault / Escort (hybrid) map. Attackers first capture a payload, then escort it to its destination. Defenders attempt to hold them back.
“King’s Row is an upscale, cosmopolitan neighborhood of London, but just beneath its peaceful surface, tensions between omnics and humans are running high. While much of modern England was built on the backs of omnic laborers, they have been denied the basic rights that humans have, with most omnics forced to live in the dense, claustrophobic city-beneath-the-city known by some as “the Underworld.” Of greater concern is that recent demonstrations by pro-omnic-rights protestors have resulted in violent clashes with the police, and a solution is nowhere in sight. Many of London’s new buildings were constructed by the omnic labor.” — Overwatch Visual Source Book (Overwatch: Collector’s Edition)
Nepal is a Control map where two teams fight to hold a single objective at a time. The first team to win two rounds wins the match.
“Years ago, a group of omnic robots experienced what they described as a spiritual awakening. They abandoned their preprogrammed lives to establish a monastery high in the Himalayas, where like-minded omnics could gather to meditate on the nature of their existence. Led by their spiritual leader, Tekhartha Mondatta, they took over the ruins of an ancient monastery and turned it into the home of the Shambali, a place where omnics and humans alike make pilgrimages in the hopes of finding a greater truth.” — Source: Overwatch Visual Source Book (Overwatch Collector’s Edition).
Nepal is composed of three maps, going from bottom (village), middle (shrine), and top (sanctum).
The LumériCo website has been updated with a new entry in the NEWS section, and new email exchanges in Guillermo Portero’s webmail. Sombra hacked LumériCo’s NEWS section to alert the population the rampant corruption of Guillermo Portero. Sombra is indeed working with Los Muertos when she said: “We, Los Muertos…”

Long live the King!
The King Guillermo Portero of LumériCo invites cordially, his loyal servants, to participate in his crowning event and to celebrate his infinite greed and treason toward the people of México. We gave coordinated the publication of info that demonstrates that Portero is a viper, that have for a long time ripoff the riches of our country for his own wealth. He has corrupted our government, turned our sisters and brothers into beggars, and he won’t stop until controlling the whole country under his dominance. But we, Los Muertos, won’t tolerate the celebration of his reign of corruption. We’ll demonstrate to our new conquistadores (conquerors) who wil take the reins of the future of our country! On November 1st, we’ll dethrone the King Viper and we’ll celebrate the recovery of our home.
Volskaya Industries is an assault map located in Russia, and the manufacturer of the massive human-piloted Svyatogor mechs that independently liberated the country from the Siberian omnium crisis without the help of the Overwatch organization.
“Russia was one of the countries hit hardest by the Omnic Crisis, but during the rebuilding process, it rode the wave of the mechanized labor industry’s revitalization and entered a period of rapid growth. However, after recent attacks from the long-dormant Siberian omnium, Russia has returned to war footing, guarding its sparkling cities with the massive, human-piloted Svyatogor mechs developed and produced by Volskaya Industries.” — source: Overwatch Visual Source Book (Overwatch Collector’s Edition, page 153).
The Lijiang Tower is a Control Map located in China. It is unknown if it is related to the Lijian city located in the Yunnan Province. That real-world Lijian city history goes as far back to the Warring States Period (221 B.C.). The local economy reached its peak during the Tang Dynasty with the construction of the Ancient Tea and Horse Road (formerly Silk Road) which opened trade between the Burman, Sichuan, Shangri-la, Tibet, and Yunnan Provinces, and extended through Iran, the Fertile Crecent and the Mediterranean Sea.
There is currently no hero associated with Lijiang Tower, but there is speculation that one of the founding members of Overwatch, Liao, might join Overwatch at a later time. If so, Lijiang Tower lore might be introduced via Digital Comics and/or Animated Short when Liao or another local hero gets introduced.
“Lijian Tower was built in the heart of a modern Chinese metropolis, its busy streets lined with stores, gardens, restaurants, and famouse night markets, where foods from around the region are available at all hours. The tower itself is home to one of the leading companies in China’s state-of-the-art space industry, Lucheng Interstellar, an organization with a long pioneering history that is currently pushing the boundaries of space exploration.” — source: Overwatch: Visual Source Book in the Collector’s Edition, page 133.
