Overwatch: Bastet Short Story

Lead writer Michael Chu wrote the newest short story Overwatch: Bastet. The story picks up where the “Old Soldiers” digital comics ended. In the previous story, Reaper wounded Soldier: 76, but couldn’t finish him. Ana wrestled Reaper onto the ground, and he retreated turning into shadowy-mists.

Bastet starts with Ana and Soldier: 76 sneaking through the streets and alleys to lay low from local police who got alerted of shots fired in the area. Ana takes Soldier: 76 to the Necropolis to tend to his wounds.

Some story elements are mentioned in this story. Reaper, Soldier: 76, and Ana were supposed to be dead to the other Overwatch members. Ana didn’t know Jack and Gabriel were alive, and viceversa.

That said, Ana mentions and blames Jack for what happened in Prague — a mission gone wrong where Reinhardt participated. Prague is the capital city of the Czech Republic. So far there is no map or hero hailing from that country. Might be interesting to speculate if we might see something show up in the PTR later in 2019.

Among characters mentioned in the story: Dr. Faisal. If the name rings a bell, you are right. One of the tablets found in the Petra map, has an email signed by “H. Faisal.” He thanked a patron for his contribution to the Petra excavation’s expenses, as well as those in Illios and Ayutthaya. Now we can add The Necropolis to the list of archeological sites that Faisal has been involved with worldwide.

This story also reveals that Soldier: 76 had a relationship with Vincent; but Vicent married someone else some time after the Rio de Janeiro mission, years ago.

This short story has a few images. One of them shows Ana wearing the goddess Bastet mask, and parts of her armor has golden laces. Seems to hint at a upcoming skin. We’ll see.
